West Ham Working To Move Stands Behind Goals Closer To Pitch

West Ham hopes it can improve the atmosphere at the London Stadium by bringing the fans closer to the pitch. GETTY IMAGES

EPL side West Ham is working on a plan to move stands closer to the pitch and "improve the matchday atmosphere at the London Stadium," according to Jack Bezants of the London DAILY MAIL. The lower tiers of the Sir Trevor Brooking and Bobby Moore stands -- behind the goals -- "could be moved forward" by as much as four meters. The club also hopes to "square off the lower tiers to give the stands more of a conventional football stadium aesthetic." West Ham presented its ideas to fans at a supporters meeting and wrote to season ticket holders in those areas of the stadium to "inform them that the possibility is being explored" (DAILY MAIL, 2/18). FOX SPORTS reported supporters have been "unhappy" with the atmosphere generated in the stadium, and "many have cited the distance between the pitch and stands as a primary concern" (FOX SPORTS, 2/18).
