Media Notes: DAZN Applies For Licenses In Germany

DAZN “intends to operate its European sports streaming services under German licences in future.” At Berlin-based media authority MABB, Perform Investment Germany has “applied for licences for DAZN in Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain as well as for the DAZN 1 Bar HD and DAZN 2 Bar channels targeting the hospitality industry” (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 1/16).

RTÉ “significantly scaled back" its GAA analyst roster for the ‘19 season, with a “smaller core of panelists and co-commentators set to cover more games.” While Dónal Óg Cusack and Kevin McStay are “set to return to screens after being absent” since ‘15, Liam Sheedy has “stepped away from punditry to become Tipperary hurling manager and Eddie Brennan is in charge of Laois hurlers.” The “same applies in football," where some familiar faces will not be returning, "either making the switch to radio or not being retained.” The trio of Joe Brolly, Colm O’Rourke and Pat Spillane is “expected to be at least broken up” (IRISH EXAMINER, 1/17).

Data provider Sportradar launched a new full-service data-driven marketing service for sports betting operators. The “ad:s service” provides bookmakers with a range of marketing solutions, including sponsorship consulting, SEO and SEA marketing, UI/UX consulting, digital traffic networks, programmatic advertising, pop-under ad networks, ad products and affiliate marketing. The ad:s service is led by Rainer Geier, who has worked in the betting and media industries for the last 18 years and established a team of experienced and proven ad tech and ad products experts (Sportradar).

Barcelona is all set to have its own television production company -- Barca Studios -- and in-house TV channel -- Barca TV. The club is “launching an audio-visual production company” to produce content. The production hub of the club will also be “mandated to look after the content for relaunched version of in-house television channel Barça TV.” Barça Studios “will be operational at the start of July, as the dedicated home of the Catalan club’s audiovisual content” (INSIDE SPORT, 1/17).
