Mark Sampson "received a significant financial settlement" from the FA more than a year after he was sacked as England women’s manager, "finally bringing an end to a saga that cost Sampson his job and reputation while plunging the governing body into crisis," according to Matt Dickinson of the LONDON TIMES. Sampson had brought an unfair dismissal case against the FA following his dismissal in Sept. '17 for "inappropriate and unacceptable" behavior in his previous role at Bristol Academy. Given that those issues had previously been dealt with by the FA’s Safeguarding Unit, with Sampson "cleared to continue leading the England team, he launched a legal claim." He had two years left on a contract worth around £100,000 ($128,000) a year. An FA spokesperson said, "We can confirm that a confidential settlement has been entered into between The FA and Mark Sampson to bring the dispute around the termination of his employment to an agreed close. We will not be commenting further on the matter." An employment tribunal "had been due to hear the case this week" (LONDON TIMES, 1/9).
