Football Notes: Southgate May Face Issues If EPL Clubs Make CL Final

England Manager Gareth Southgate "could face significant disruption" to his bid to win the inaugural UEFA Nations League if a Premier League club makes it to the final of the Champions League. The semifinals, on June 5, kick off just four days after the Champions League final, which could give Southgate a "headache over the fitness and preparation" of some of his players (London TELEGRAPH, 11/19).

Spanish third division side Marbella announced in a statement that Owner Alexander Grinberg sold the club to Chinese company Guireniao Group, which is based in Hong Kong (MARCA, 11/19).

Britain's most promising young footballers "could be denied moves to foreign clubs after Brexit." An investigation discovered that players such as Jadon Sancho -- whose form with Borussia Dortmund after moving there aged 17 has "seen him elevated" to the England squad -- "would have been prevented from moving if Britain had already withdrawn" from the EU. Fears that it will become harder for young players to move abroad are "likely to strengthen the FA's resolve to change the eligibility rules" for foreign players in the EPL (TELEGRAPH, 11/19).

The FA is investigating "serious claims of corruption" made against EPL side Fulham by the club’s former assistant director of football, Craig Kline. Kline resigned from Fulham last November after "a string of fallouts with a number of senior figures at the club." Last month, he tweeted that he had evidence of "systematic corruption" accompanied by the hashtags "fraud," "racism," "kickbacks" and "minors" (London INDEPENDENT, 11/20).

Top officials from La Liga clubs met in New Delhi on Tuesday, "ramping up their activities" in India while "mulling a collaboration" with the All India Football Federation. A couple of them inquired "about the popularity of kabaddi in India," and a few said that they are "aware" of cricket being the country's No. 1 sport. One club official said, "We are not here to displace cricket from the top. We have come to see football's potential for growth in India" (PTI, 11/20).
