League Notes: FIA Approves 21-Race Formula 1 Calendar For '19

FIA approved a 21-race calendar for the '19 Formula 1 world championship following a World Motor Sport Council meeting on Friday. The calendar confirms the provisional schedule released by Liberty Media in August. The season will begin on March 17 at the Australian Grand Prix and finish Dec. 1 in Abu Dhabi (REUTERS, 10/12).

The Welsh Rugby Union's proposal to reduce the number of directors on its board from 20 to 12 was approved. The resolution, "part of the WRU's drive to modernise its governance structures," was put before its 320 members, clubs and districts at Sunday's annual general meeting. The AGM, held at Cardiff's Vale Resort, needed a 75% majority to pass the proposal (BBC, 10/14).

Racing authorities in Ireland hope "common sense" will prevail and a Brexit deal can be done that will allow "easy movement of horses to continue" between Ireland and the U.K. However, Horse Racing Ireland CEO Brian Kavanagh stressed on Sunday that both racing's ruling body and the Department Of Agriculture are "preparing for a no-deal situation." Kavanagh said, "We're hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. We have to be prepared for a no-deal scenario" (IRISH TIMES, 10/14).
