Sources: Team Sky Confident It Will Be Unaffected By Comcast Takeover

Team Sky has declined to comment following Comcast's takeover of Sky.GETTY IMAGES

Team Sky declined to comment on the takeover of backer Sky by U.S. cable company Comcast, but insiders said that the cycling team is "confident" it will be "unaffected," according to Tom Cary of the London TELEGRAPH. Sky Chair James Murdoch resigned from the company's board on Tuesday along with six other directors following the £29.7B ($39.2M) deal. Murdoch, son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, had been "one of Team Sky's staunchest supporters" during its recent controversies. He backed the team when the scandal surrounding Bradley Wiggins' therapeutic use exemptions, the bullying probe at British Cycling and the UK Anti-Doping investigation into Team Sky and British Cycling "were all at their height." Insiders, however, insisted Team Sky has "always been more" Sky CEO Jeremy Darroch's project than Murdoch's, and they said that their understanding is that the team members "will be allowed to continue" to do their jobs (TELEGRAPH, 10/9).
