Sky Deutschland Extends Rights To European Tour, Ryder Cup

Sky Deutschland extended its rights to show European golf, according to TELECOMPAPER. As a result, the pay-TV provider will remain home to the PGA European Tour as well as the 2020 and 2022 Ryder Cups in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In total, the agreement includes over 40 events per year, including all the Race to Dubai tournaments, the four World Golf Championships and the eight Rolex Series tournaments, including the World Tour Championship in Dubai (TELECOMPAPER, 9/25). DIGITAL TV EUROPE reported Sky Deutschland launched a "pop-up Ryder Cup channel" on Tuesday and will provide coverage of the tournament through Oct. 1. In addition to the broadcast, viewers will be able to see highlights from previous years and magazine shows on the channel, called Sky Sport Ryder Cup HD. The channel will provide about 30 hours of live coverage of the Ryder Cup from Paris, with commentary from Carlo Knauss, Irek Mykow and Gregor Biernath (DIGITAL TV EUROPE, 9/24).
