Media Notes: Comcast Purchases More Than 30% Of Shares In Sky

Comcast announced it purchased more than 30% of shares in Sky. It follows the U.S. network's victory in Saturday's auction against rival Fox. Comcast's £17.28 ($22.75)-per-share offer values the company at more than £30.45B ($40.1B) (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 9/25).

YouTube "established itself as a direct competitor to Twitch" in '15 with the launch of YouTube Gaming, a standalone app built for video game and livestreaming content. Now, three years after its launch, YouTube Gaming is "shutting down, with many of its features moving to the original YouTube platform." However, gaming will remain a "heavy focus" for YouTube, and the video site is "already positioning itself to take another swing at Twitch." The company will officially retire YouTube Gaming in March (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 9/24).
