Media Notes: IARD Partners With Social Media Sites

The Int'l Alliance for Responsible Drinking is partnering with social media sites to "encourage responsible alcohol advertising" that does not target minors or those that do not want to receive it. A group of 11 beer, wine and spirits producers, including AB InBev, Bacardi, Carlsberg Group, Diageo and Pernod Ricard will work with Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube to "help prevent irresponsible advertising" (MARKETING WEEK, 9/19).

DSport will broadcast the Ryder Cup for Indian viewers. The tournament will be broadcast live on DSport from Friday-Sunday. The action for the first two days will start at 11am (DSport).

Sky is "stepping up its fight" against illegal use of its live sports coverage in pubs across the U.K. and Ireland, with two more sentences as a result. Last week, Mark Clennell, the designated premises supervisor of The Wheatsheaf in Houghton le Spring, Tyne and Wear, was convicted in his absence of two offenses of dishonest reception of a TV transmission. In this case, Sky televised football matches "with the intent to avoid payment of the applicable charge" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 9/24).

Chinese social communication platform WeChat joined the World Golf Classic-HSBC Champions as an official partner for the '18 tournament, which takes place from Oct. 25-28 at Sheshan Int'l Golf Club, Shanghai. The application will allow fans to gain access to real time tournament information and scores as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes content (IMG).

Basketball Bundesliga announced Sport1 will remain its free-TV partner for the next five years. The agreement was concluded by Deutsche Telekom, which acquired the media rights to the league for the next five years (Basketball Bundesliga).

The Ligue 1 match between Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille, which OL won 4-2, was watched by 1.6 million viewers on Canal+. The pay-TV channel drew a 33.3% market share. It is the largest audience for a Ligue 1 match since the last meeting between the two clubs in March (L’ÉQUIPE, 9/24).
