Finance Notes: Valenciennes Minority Owner Wants To Buy Club

Ligue 2 side Valenciennes minority shareholder Patrick Partouche said that he is "ready to purchase the club" from Owner Eddy Zdziech. Partouche announced his intention on Twitter, which led to a club shareholders meeting last weekend. Zdziech said on Monday that he "is not against the idea." On Tuesday, Zdziech told the players that he was "ready to sell." The club is estimated to be worth at least €6M ($7M) (L'ÉQUIPE, 9/20).

Runners at this year’s London Marathon raised £63.7M ($84.5M) for charity, "setting a new world record for an annual single day fundraising event" for a 12th successive year. The organizers said that the new record was an increase of more than £2M ($2.6M) on the previous record total of £61.5M from '17. The total raised for charity since Virgin Money took over as title sponsor of the annual race in '10 is now more than £500M ($663.6M) (REUTERS, 9/20).

Racing Victoria CEO Giles Thompson said that "unrivaled" prize money levels prove Victorian racing is an "industry going places." Thompson said that the growth of A$55M ($40.1M) in prize money since '15 to A$228M ($166.2M) was evidence of the industry's "robust health." A record A$6.42B ($4.7B) was wagered domestically on Victorian racing -- up 2.7%. There was also an 8% "jump in night racing average turnover" (HERALD SUN, 9/20).
