Event Notes: AFL Side Collingwood To Host Watch Party

Empty-handed Australian Football League side Collingwood fans who missed tickets to their team’s "blockbuster preliminary final" against Richmond at the Melbourne Cricket Ground "will have to again turn to Ticketek for the next best thing." Collingwood is "putting on a live site at Margaret Court Arena on Friday night," where 5,000 "lucky fans who missed out on attending the grand final qualifier will be able to watch the game on the big screen and create their own match-like atmosphere" (THE AGE, 9/18).

Both the Japanese men's and women's rugby sevens teams secured automatic qualification as hosts of Tokyo 2020, World Rugby announced Monday. Twelve teams will compete for medals at Ajinomoto Stadium, "with 11 places in each event to be filled through the qualification process." The top four teams in the men's and women's World Rugby Sevens Series 2019 automatically qualify for Tokyo, "where they will be joined by the winners of six regional tournaments and the victors of a repechage competition" (KYODO, 9/18).

The Saudi General Sports Authority and WWE will present the Crown Jewel at the King Fahd Int'l Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Nov. 2, including a Universal Championship Triple Threat match featuring Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman, and the first-ever WWE World Cup tournament to determine the best in the world. The event will stream live on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view outside the Middle East (WWE).

Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., was confirmed as the venue for the 2036 Ryder Cup. The PGA of America also announced the course, which has staged the U.S. Open three times, will also host the PGA Championship in '31. The Blue Course "last staged a major championship" in '11 (SKY SPORTS, 9/18).
