Southern Kings Announce Isuzu Sponsorship, New Ownership Group

Pro14 side Southern Kings announced Isuzu Motors South Africa will be "partnering with a consortium of predominantly black business people" to sponsor the club for a three-year period, according to SPORT24. The statement added that "the Southern Kings will achieve a historical milestone by becoming the first black-owned rugby franchise in the country." Binding offers were submitted by the relevant parties, with SA Rugby exec committee approval and "other transaction closing conditions set to take place over the coming weeks." Isuzu Motors South Africa CEO & Managing Dir Michael Sacke said that the company was "excited to be the main sponsor of the Southern Kings rugby team franchise under new ownership." The consortium entered into discussions with the Nelson Mandela University with regards to "reviving the Rugby Academy" and "providing incubation and training for the team" (SPORT24, 8/20).
