Tottenham Manager Rules Out Using Three Home Venues

Tottenham Manager Mauricio PottechinoGETTY IMAGES

Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino ruled out the club using three different home stadiums this season and said that it "must find a date at Wembley" to stage its game against Man City, according to Gary Jacob of the LONDON TIMES. Pochettino apologized to supporters for the construction delays at the club's new home, which could mean Tottenham also has to request that the meeting with Man City is moved from Oct. 28. With Wembley unavailable that day "because of an NFL fixture," the club has been "exploring alternative dates" and venues with Man City and the Premier League. It is unclear if Wembley could host a football game on the Monday night as was suggested by Pochettino, and it would "also cause an issue" with the English Football League if Tottenham is playing in the FA Cup fourth round that week. Pochettino said, "If you ask me today if it’s not possible to play in the new stadium, of course it’s about finding a way to play at Wembley because I think to play at another place, maybe three stadiums in one season, will be too much. Maybe we need to adapt. The day after the NFL game maybe the pitch [will] not [be] in the best condition, but we need to make the effort and try to play in the end because maybe to find another date will be difficult" (LONDON TIMES, 8/16).
