Man City's Amazon Prime Doc Sure To Rankle Sky Over Access

The launch this week of Amazon Prime's behind-the-scenes documentary series covering Man City last season is "likely to cause major ructions," according to Charles Sale of the London DAILY MAIL. The access given to the Amazon cameras was "unprecedented" in English football and included "frequent trips to the dressing room" to film Manager Pep Guardiola speaking to the players. The £10M ($12.7M) series opens with Guardiola giving an "emotional address" to his players at halftime of the 3-0 FA Cup final victory over Arsenal at Wembley. Premier League broadcasters pay billions for live rights, but are "not allowed inside the dressing rooms on match days." And Sky, which has "bankrolled" the Premier League since the start and made its views clear about Amazon's privileges frequently last season, is "going to be raging" when it sees the Amazon series. Man City said that  Amazon was helped by its Spanish production team Mediapro coming from Barcelona and "winning the trust" of Catalan Guardiola, who had worked with Mediapro before. Amazon is "looking to do another Premier League project" (DAILY MAIL, 8/14).
