Madrid Basketball Federation (FBM) President JUAN MANUEL MARTÍN CAÑO died on Monday. Martín Caño, the FBM's president since '95, also served as VP of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) from '00-16 (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 8/13). ... Liverpool took the "remarkable step" of reporting MOHAMED SALAH to the police after video footage emerged "apparently showing him using his mobile phone while driving." The club took the action after speaking to the Egypt int'l following the video being posted online. In the U.K., it is illegal to a use a phone while driving "even if the car is stopped in traffic or at traffic lights" (LONDON TIMES, 8/14). ... ISRAEL FOLAU said that the prospect of playing at next year's Rugby World Cup is "enticing" but still will not give a firm commitment about what his future looks like post-'18. The Wallabies fullback is off contract at the end of the season and has had to "bat away questions all year" about whether he will stay in Australian rugby in '19 (THE AGE, 8/14). ... Tennis coach JUDY MURRAY waded into the debate on plans to “downsize” sport facilities at Meadowbank in Edinburgh -- "claiming the city needs more sports facilities to combat Scotland’s obesity crisis." Murray said that she was "so sad" to see that the demolition of the Meadowbank Velodrome had begun. The mother of ANDY and JAMIE MURRAY wrote on social media, "So sad. We have an obesity crisis and need more sports facilities, not less" (SCOTSMAN, 8/14).
