Event Notes: Fortnite Developer Announces $8M Tournament Series
Fortnite developer Epic Games announced a new tournament series with an $8M total prize pool. The Summer Skirmish Series will take place over the course of eight weeks and feature "a variety of Fortnite competitions." The tournament will kick off with a "duos invitational" with $250,000 in prize money (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 7/11).
ESL was awarded the "coveted" Valve Major status for its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2019. As is standard for Valve's sponsored CS:GO Majors, the tournament will feature a $1M prize pool and will require ESL to "adjust its tournament rulebook" for the event to match the developer's. An ESL spokesperson said that IEM Katowice was chosen over other ESL tournaments "because it best fit the date range provided by Valve" (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 7/12).
