Amazon Reportedly Pursuing La Liga Broadcast Rights

Spain's La Información reported Amazon is "in the frame to pick up the remaining rights packages" to screen La Liga, according to Julian Clover of BROADBAND TV NEWS. As was the case in the U.K. market -- where Amazon "eventually acquired the final 20 unsold games" from the Premier League -- the "parcel delivery firm turned TV disrupter" has been linked with the four outstanding lots put up for auction by La Liga. The "main rights" were already sold to Telefónica and Mediapro (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 7/3). TELECOMPAPER reported the four unsold La Liga rights lots include one live game a week from La Liga, 12 games a week from the second division and streaming rights to highlights packages, "for which La Liga is looking to raise" a total of €120M ($139.7M) (TELECOMPAPER, 7/3).
