Event Notes: Amir Khan To Face Samuel Vargas In September

Boxer Amir Khan will face Samuel Vargas at Arena Birmingham on Sept. 8 in his second fight this year after "almost two years out of the ring." According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Khan could face British rival Kell Brook in December "if the former world champion can stay on track by overcoming" Vargas. A Khan-Brook "showdown, after years of enmity, is arguably the biggest fight out there for both men as they near the close of their careers" (London TELEGRAPH, 6/28).

The GAA insisted "there were no winners or losers in the qualifier venue row with Kildare after finally drawing a line under the saga." Less than 48 hours after saying that Kildare's round-three tie with Mayo this Saturday would not be moved from Croke Park "under any circumstances," the GAA "performed a U-turn." That game will now be played at 7pm in Newbridge's St. Conleth's Park, which has a capacity of "only" 8,200 (LONDON TIMES, 6/28).

Russian esports holding company ESforce and contact lens manufacturer Acuvue launched the Acuvue Golden Lens project. ESForce said that the project will give an award for the "most impressive in-game highlight" during the qualifiers for The International 8, the last stop of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit with the largest single tournament prize pool in esports (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 6/27).
