Media Notes: All Blacks, Black Ferns Promote Diversity In 'Effort Is Effort'

Players from the All Blacks and Black Ferns are "championing diversity" through a campaign run by the teams' biggest sponsor, AIG. Black Ferns Fiao'o Faamausili and Selica Winiata and All Blacks captain Kieran Read and T.J. Perenara are "among those featured" in the first clip of the series. The global campaign, "Effort is Effort," was launched on Monday (STUFF, 6/25).

Chelsea Owner Roman Abramovich is "set to reduce his stake" in Russian broadcaster Channel One. He currently owns 24% through ORT-KB and will reportedly sell 4% in order to "comply with media legislation," which since Jan. '16 has "limited the level of foreign ownership in Russian media companies" to 20%. He reportedly has "no intention of selling his entire stake" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 6/25).

The Polish National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) granted Telewizja Polsat licenses for three satellite-delivered channels. The "most significant" is for Polsat Games, which will be "aimed at viewers interested in esports and is likely to make its debut in Q3 this year" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 6/22).

Mercia Technologies announced VirtTrade partnered with Formula 1 to join its roster of digital initiatives, aimed at providing new methods for fan engagement in the sport. VirtTrade is a developer and publisher of digital trading cards and works with licensors to create apps for fans (Mercia Technologies). 

The French Grand Prix drew an average audience of 2.2 million viewers on TF1. Pay-TV channel Canal+ drew 834,000 viewers for its broadcast of the race, which was won by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton (L’ÉQUIPE, 6/25).
