Media Notes: Altice Abandons Media Capital Acquisition

Atlice abandoned its attempt to acquire Portuguese broadcaster and production group Media Capital "in the face of lack of progress to secure regulatory approval of the deal." Altice said that  it was "calling time" on the merger, one year after signing the contract and with no outcome of the regulatory process in sight (DIGITAL TV EUROPE, 6/19).

Eleven Sports acquired the rights to live and exclusive football from the Bundesliga, the German Supercup, the Scottish Premiership, Belgian Pro League, the Belgian Supercup and Arsenal's official club channel (from '18-19) in Portugal. The two-year agreement for the Bundesliga and the German Supercup starts from the '19-20 season. The agreements with the Scottish Premiership and Belgian Pro League will run for two years beginning with the '18-19 season (Eleven Sports). 

German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will remove Sport1+ HD from its platform. A Sky spokesperson said, "We regularly analyze and evaluate our partner channel portfolio on the basis of various quantitative and qualitative aspects. As a result, Sky Deutschland has decided not to extend the distribution of Sport1+ HD beyond the end of June 2018" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 6/19).

The Golf Channel and Loch Lomond Group are partnering on a promotional tour with the Claret Jug to select U.S. cities in advance of the 147th Open at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland. Loch Lomond Whisky's sponsorship of the tour enhances the brand's five-year partnership with the R&A (Golf Channel).
