Football Notes: FIFA Rules Out 'Concussion Bins'

FIFA ruled out "concussion bins" being introduced to football -- with Medical Committee Chair Michel D'Hooghe claiming they "would be abused by managers." It was revealed last week that Premier League doctors were pushing for teams to be "allowed to make temporary substitutions for up to 10 minutes." That would require a change to the Laws of the Game, something D'Hooghe said that he "would not support." Implying managers might try to exploit such a rule change for tactical reasons, he added, "I hope you don't believe that this would be used rightly every time" (London TELEGRAPH, 6/15).

The U.K. Labour Party asked the government to reconsider the decision to reject League Championship side West Brom's safe-standing application. The club's request to install 3,600 rail seats was rejected by U.K. Sports Minister Tracey Crouch in April. Parliament will hold a debate on safe-standing at football grounds on June 25, with the U.K. government "set to commission a review into the issue" (BBC, 6/15).

Regarding "rumors that he was not investing in signings because he intends to sell the club," Liga MX side Chivas Guadalajara Owner Jorge Vergara "tweeted that the club is not for sale." He tweeted an image of a sign that said, "The club is not on sale. Don't let yourself be fooled" (LA AFICIÓN, 6/15).
