Event Notes: Formula 1 Monaco GP To Employ Grid Girls

Liberty Media in February denounced the use of grid girls as "at odds with modern day societal norms."GETTY IMAGES

Monaco Grand Prix organizers are set to defy Formula 1 owner Liberty Media "by employing grid girls before Sunday's race." Liberty removed F1's "long-standing tradition of using female models" at the beginning of the year and has since "rolled out its grid kids scheme." The grid kids will still be used in Monte Carlo on Sunday "but the glamorous race is also primed to see the return of grid models" (RTÉ, 5/22).

Boxer Anthony Joshua is "ready to turn down" a £37M ($49.7M) offer to fight Deontay Wilder in the U.S. by "insisting" their world heavyweight unification bout takes place in the U.K. Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, said that a final decision over the staging of the fight will be finalized "in the next three weeks." Joshua is prepared to take a pay cut of more than £7M ($9.4M) "to fight in front of his home fans." Wembley, Twickenham and London's Olympic Stadium are three possible venues for the event (London TELEGRAPH, 5/22).
