Sports broadcaster DARRELL EASTLAKE died, aged 75. He reportedly died on Thursday in a nursing home on the NSW Central Coast after "suffering from Alzheimer's disease." The former Wide World of Sports commentator worked in TV and radio for "more than 40 years" and worked for the Nine Network from '82 until his retirement in '05 (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 4/19). ... National Rugby League side Brisbane Broncos coach WAYNE BENNETT walked out on a media conference after "taking exception to questions about his coaching future." Bennett lost patience and left on Thursday after being queried about a report linking Melbourne Storm coach CRAIG BELLAMY to Brisbane. Bennett: "I am coach here next year -- that could change. But if you don't want to talk about the footy, I will leave it at that" (AAP, 4/20). ... Boxer CANELO ÁLVAREZ was banned for six months "after failing two drugs tests earlier this year." The Mexican middleweight, 27, said that "eating contaminated meat was the reason he tested for clenbuterol" on Feb. 17 and 20 (BBC, 4/18). ... Team New Zealand confirmed PETER BURLING will be its captain for the 2021 America's Cup. Burling was a helmsman with the team that reclaimed the title in Bermuda last year and is "currently completing with Team Brunel in the Volvo Ocean Race." GLENN ASHBY skippered the team in Bermuda and said that he was returning for the '21 campaign. However, "his role with the team was still to be defined" (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 4/19).
