Event Notes: Wozniaki May Boycott Miami Open Following Abuse

Caroline Wozniacki: "I would have hoped that [James Blake] would have made a stance, but he didn't and that's that."GETTY IMAGES

World No. 2 tennis player Caroline Wozniacki warned she "may boycott the Miami Open after what she considered was an inadequate response from officials" to her claims of death threats and abuse aimed at her family at the tournament last month. The Australian Open winner was "disappointed" with what she saw as Miami Open Dir James Blake's "unsympathetic response" after security staff "did nothing to prevent" the verbal abuse she complained was directed at her family during her second-round loss to Monica Puig (London GUARDIAN, 4/19).

The London Marathon on Sunday is "expected to be the warmest on record." Extra water, ice and showers will be available to runners, while event organizers issued warnings to all participants to "prepare for the conditions accordingly." The forecast is for sunshine and a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit), beating the previous high of 22.2C (72F) in '07 (PA, 4/19).

World Sailing announced the inaugural World Sailing Offshore World Championship will be held in '19. The event is an annual offshore double-handed mixed competition between nations, featuring 20 boats. It hopes to engage with new countries by providing turnkey equipment ready to use at the event venue as well as a training academy. World Sailing is seeking an event management partner for the competition's commercial and operational delivery from '19-24 (World Sailing).

Indian Premier League side Chennai Super Kings chartered a special train to take 1,000 fans more than 1,000km to Friday's match "for free." The southeastern India city has been banned from hosting games "due to safety concerns," with the team's home matches moved to Pune. But the club ensured that it will have fans on its side for the "home" game against Rajasthan Royals (BBC, 4/19).

The Hong Kong Cycling Association "could be forced to cancel this year's national road race championships" on Bride Pool Road in Tai Po if the government does not "set proper guidelines and policy support" toward staging road races. The association "still needs the green light from the villagers" who live along the route to close the road for the annual competition. The national road race championships are set for June 23 (time trial) and June 24 (road race) (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, 4/19).
