Marketplace Roundup: Reds Sponsor Majella Under Scrutiny

Super Rugby side Queensland Reds' new sponsor, Majella, is "under scrutiny over millions of dollars owed by its companies." Corporations within the funds management and property group have been "sued for money by the taxman, WorkCover Queensland, two lenders and a client." The Reds are also in "discussions" with Majella about financial commitments for the sponsorship, which is reportedly worth roughly A$1.15M ($893,300) (Brisbane COURIER-MAIL, 3/21).

Super W side ACT Brumbies Women agreed to a deal with energy company ActewAGL as the club's back-of-jersey sponsor for the rest of the year. It is a "massive step forward" for the organizations after a "frosty two-year period." ActewAGL has not been a Brumbies sponsor since '16. ActewAGL Corporate Affairs Dir Paul Walshe said, "It's wonderful to be back with the Brumbies. ... ActewAGL has had a strong commitment to women's sport over the last 20 years and this is the next step" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 3/21).

FIFA announced Russian telecom Rostelecom as a regional supporter for the 2018 World Cup for Europe. The company will receive rights including LED board exposure during the event, the opportunity to run ticket raffles and brand association rights for its region (FIFA).

Premiership Rugby side Saracens announced a joint venture with Premier Team Promotions Ltd., which "will take on all commercial aspects of the club." Saracens Chair Nigel Wray is a director of the firm and his daughter Lucy is its chair (RUNNING RUGBY, 3/20).

IMG entered a strategic partnership to increase awareness for the German Touring Car Championship (DTM), including a two-year deal to globally distribute its media rights. The deal for the '18 and '19 DTM seasons excludes Germany, Austria and Switzerland (IMG).

Eredivisie side Ajax agreed to a cooperation agreement with facility services company Effective Group that will begin on April 1 and run until June 30, 2021. The firm will increase its national name recognition through visibility in the Amsterdam ArenA and on the Toekomst sports complex (Ajax).
