S. Korea To Hand Out 3.3B Won To Olympic, Paralympic Athletes

The South Korean Sports Ministry said that the country will give bonuses worth a total of 3.3B won ($3.1M) to its athletes and coaches who participated in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, according to YONHAP. The Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism said that it will award 3.3B won to 254 athletes and coaches -- 186 for the Olympics and 68 for the Paralympics -- for their performances at Pyeongchang 2018. The ministry added that a Gold Medalist will receive 63M won ($58,590), a Silver Medalist will get 30M won ($27,900) and a Bronze Medalist will be given 25M won ($23,250). For medalists in team sports, 47.25M won ($43,940) will be presented to Gold Medal winners, 26.25M won ($24,400) to each member of Silver-winning teams and 18.75M won ($17,435) to those of Bronze-winning teams. Head coaches will receive 80M won ($74,400) for Gold, while 60M won ($55,800) will be given to assistant coaches (YONHAP, 3/19).
