Media Notes: Turner Int'l Launches Digital Ad Unit 'T1'

Turner Int'l launched a new digital advertising unit called "T1" to connect global advertisers based outside of the U.S. with its audiences. Led by CNN Int'l Commercial President Rani Raad, T1 will combine Turner’s int'l digital advertising capabilities into a single division and complement advertising sales, as well as CNNIC’s operations across Latin America, EMEA and APAC. Turner is "keen for T1 to offer brands a suite of creative and data-driven advertising solutions" (THEDRUM, 3/19).

NBC Sports secured the rights to European Professional Club Rugby's Champions Cup and Challenge Cup in the U.S. through the '21-22 season. NBC Sports will screen all Champions Cup matches, either via linear programming on NBC or NBCSN or online via NBC Sports Gold. NBC Sports Gold will also broadcast the knockout stage of the Challenge Cup (EPCR).

Indian Premier League global media rights holder Star India syndicated digital rights of the tournament to Yupp TV for certain overseas territories. Yupp TV picked up the exclusive digital and TV media rights for Europe, South America and Southeast Asian countries and non-exclusive rights for Australia for an undisclosed amount (ECONOMIC TIMES, 3/19).

Serbia Broadband added four multi-angle and multi-screen channels "to its new generation TV platform EON’s offer." Known as SK7, 8, 9 and 10, they show broadcasts of the same sporting events, "but with cameras set at different locations to provide viewers with different angles of view" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 3/19).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown. SBJ’s Tom Friend also joins the show to share his insights into NBA viewership trends.
