Limerick GAA Begins Process Of Selling Stadium Naming Rights

Any naming rights deal for the stadium would include a redevelopment plan.GETTY IMAGES

Limerick Gaelic Athletic Assocation has begun the process of selling the naming rights for its Gaelic Grounds stadium in a deal that "could be worth" €1.4M ($1.72M), according to Damian Lawlor of the LONDON TIMES. That figure, however, "would be likely spread across" 10 years, meaning the county will earn about €140,000 ($172,100) per year from any deal. The evaluation came from an independent sports sponsorship company and it is understood that Limerick officials "accept the figure will be in that region." It "seems a paltry amount but demand from potential sponsors is weak." The naming rights of Thomond Park have not been sold "despite the profile held by" Pro14 side Munster Rugby. The lack of corporate facilities at the Gaelic Grounds "may restrict the value of the naming rights." Another worry is that the stadium "may not hold many inter-county senior championship games" (LONDON TIMES, 2/21).
