Media Notes: Olympics Watched By Average Of 952,000 In France

The Pyeongchang Olympics have attracted an average audience of 952,000 viewers for the 86 hours broadcast on France 2 and France 3. Biathlon has been the most-followed event by French audiences, drawing an average of 2.6 million viewers. Biathlon's time-friendly starts (noon in France) and the presence of French flag bearer Martin Fourcade “contributed to boosting the viewing numbers.” Six other disciplines “eclipsed the million-viewer mark on average:” ski jumping (1.9M), luge (1.58M), freestyle skiing (1.57M), speed skating (1.46M), short track speed skating (1.43M) and cross-country skiing (1.01M) (L’ÉQUIPE, 2/16).

The Europa League match between Olympique Lyonnais and Villareal drew an average audience of 1.39 million viewers on W9 in France on Thursday. The match, which OL won 3-1, attracted a peak audience of 1.6 million. BeIN Sports also broadcast the match but did not release its viewing figures (L’ÉQUIPE, 2/16).
