Haas Becomes First Formula 1 Team To Reveal Its '18 Car

Haas Formula 1 is "the first team to release images" of its '18 car, according to Andrew Benson of the BBC. Haas, which finished eighth last season, "published digital images of the VF-18," which it hopes will enable it to "close the gap to the top teams." The color scheme attempts to minimize the "visual impact" of the controversial "halo" head-protection device, the biggest technical change this year. Team Principal Gunther Steiner said that the car was an "evolution" of last year's model. He said, "We eliminated a lot of the variables where we knew we were weak" (BBC, 2/14). REUTERS' Alan Baldwin reported with "few other rule changes" for '18 besides the introduction of the halo, Steiner said that the car was "less about reinvention and more about refinement." He added, "You see elements we had from last year on the car this year. Our 2017 car was actually pretty good, but we didn’t always get the best out of it, and that’s what we aimed to change in 2018." F1's season-opening race is in Australia on March 25 (REUTERS, 2/14).
