ManU Pays Tribute To Victims Of Munich Air Disaster

Biting temperatures and a snow shower "failed to stop" more than 4,500 ManU supporters from coming to Old Trafford to honor the victims of the Munich Air Disaster, which occurred 60 years ago Tuesday, according to Paul Hirst of the LONDON TIMES. Bobby Charlton and Harry Gregg, the two remaining survivors of the crash which claimed 23 lives, "cut emotional figures as they took part in a 45-minute ceremony in the East Stand." Snow fell as Charlton, Gregg, Alex Ferguson, Ed Woodward and Mike Edelson joined Manager José Mourinho and his squad to "pay tribute to those who perished in the crash," which occurred on a wintry afternoon at Munich-Riem airport. The bottom tier of the East Stand "fell quiet to remember the deal, among them eight journalists who were traveling with the team" (LONDON TIMES, 2/6).

VIDEO TRIBUTE: The London EVENING STANDARD reported three ManU players participated in a short film to "commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Munich air disaster." Ander Herrera, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard helped the Manchester United Foundation, the charity arm of the club which was set up in '07 as a legacy to the Busby Babes, for the project. The players were "joined by young people to recite a poignant poem," which was interspersed with "emotive imagery" of the Busby Babes and newspaper clippings from the tragic event (EVENING STANDARD, 2/6).
