FIFA Announces 4.9 Million Ticket Requests For 2018 World Cup

FIFA announced that 4,905,169 tickets were requested by fans before the random selection draw sales period concluded on Wednesday. Since Dec. 5, supporters have had the opportunity to apply for tickets. Most of the applications have come from Russia (2,503,957), with Germany (338,414), Argentina (186,005), Mexico (154,611), Brazil (140,848), Poland (128,736), Spain (110,649), Peru (100,256), Colombia (87,786), the U.S. (87,052) and the Netherlands (71,096) making up the top 10 countries outside the host nation. Overall, int'l demand accounts for 49%. Due to the high demand, a random selection draw process will be carried out to determine which fans will be awarded tickets. The next opportunity to purchase tickets for the 2018 World Cup will commence on March 13, when tickets will be sold in real time on a first-come, first-served basis at FIFA.com/tickets. At the request of Russian authorities, all fans attending matches at the World Cup need to apply for a FAN ID (FIFA).
