Facility Notes: Swindon Town Makes Offer To Acquire County Ground Freehold
League Two side Swindon Town "made an offer to acquire the freehold" of its County Ground home. The club said that representatives engaged in "several positive meetings" with Swindon Borough Council last year. Swindon Town "subsequently made a formal offer to purchase the stadium" (BBC, 1/17).
Two of Wellington region's rugby grandstands "are facing earthquake strengthening issues, with one ordered closed, effective immediately." Masterton's Sir Brian Lochore Stand was closed this week "following an initial structural engineering report showing its earthquake rating to be below the required standard." Meanwhile, it has been "more than two years" since the grandstand at Levin Domain was assessed as "quake prone," but a decision still has not been reached on its fate (STUFF, 1/18).
