Event Notes: Cavendish Wants To Race In Expanded Tour De Yorkshire

Cyclist Mark Cavendish said that he "definitely" wants to race in next year's Tour de Yorkshire. The '18 race will take place from May 3-6 and also feature a two-day women's race. Cavendish, 32, said that he "cannot yet confirm his place in the race" (BBC, 12/5).

The 2018 Tour de Yorkshire announced its itinerary on Tuesday, including routes from Beverley to Doncaster, Barnsley to Ilkley and Richmond to Scarborough. The final stage will start in Halifax and finish in Leeds. The women's race will take place from May 3-4 "over a similar route as the men but racing in the morning" (BBC, 12/5).

Melbourne will host the World Cup of Golf for the third consecutive time, with the 59th edition of the event to be held at the Metropolitan Golf Club from November 21-25, 2018, tournament organizers said on Tuesday. The tournament features two-man teams from 28 nations (REUTERS, 12/5).

Sri Lankan cricketer Suranga Lakmal and Indian Mohammad Shami vomited on the field before walking off "as Delhi's notorious smog continued to plague the third and final test against India on Tuesday." India's second innings was into its sixth over when Lakmal "bent over and threw up before walking off" of the ground for the second time in the match. Shami was also sick in the final session (REUTERS, 12/5).

UFC's first event in mainland China, UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs. Gastelum, took place in front of a sellout crowd of 15,128 at Shanghai's Mercedes-Benz Arena on Nov. 25. It drew more than 1 million live views on PPTV and an additional 1 million on VOD. The event's official hashtag, #UFCShanghai, garnered more than 46 million reads (UFC).
