Event Notes: CONCACAF Agrees To Launch Nations League Tournament
CONCACAF’s governing council "agreed to launch a new Nations League tournament," President Victor Montagliani said. The competition will begin in the int'l dates in Sept. '18 and will feature all 41 member countries of the confederation, including Mexico and the U.S. Those nations will be split into three divisions based on their "sporting level," with promotion and relegation (REUTERS, 11/16).
Gulf Cup organizers on Thursday said that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain had "withdrawn" from the Qatar-hosted tournament "amid a deepening political crisis in the region." Tournament execs said that they "had received no response from the three federations to questions about their participation in the competition" scheduled to start on Dec. 22 (AFP, 11/16).
