U.S. In Talks To Host Tournament Featuring Teams Not In 2018 World Cup

The U.S. Soccer Federation "started talks with other sides" that missed out on the World Cup about holding a tournament in '18, according to Amitai Winehouse of the London DAILY MAIL. That includes the likes of Italy and the Netherlands, which have "already been engaged in conversations" about organizing an event to take place next summer. Reports in the U.S. "put forward the idea on Tuesday" and the USSF "came out to confirm it was exploring the concept." The notion "picked up steam" once Italy was eliminated on Monday. Italy and the Netherlands "will be keen to play notionally competitive fixtures" as they look to improve on their "disappointing displays in qualification." That also applies to the U.S. and Chile (DAILY MAIL, 11/15).
