Franchise Notes: PSG Denies It Offered Cavani €1M To Give Up Penalty Kicks

Paris St. Germain said a report that Edinson Cavani was offered €1M ($1.18M) by club Chair Nasser Al-Khelaifi to allow Neymar to take penalties is "untrue." Cavani and Neymar recently disagreed over a second-half free kick and a penalty during PSG's 2-0 home win over Olympique Lyonnais, and their public spat "led to reports of a rift between the pair." El País reported Cavani currently has a €1M bonus clause in his contract if he finishes as the top scorer in Ligue 1 but that Al-Khelaifi had made an offer -- via an intermediary -- that would "allow him to claim the bonus regardless on the proviso he gave up his status as designated penalty taker." The Spanish newspaper said that Cavani rejected the offer (ESPN.com, 9/25).

The Lisbon Lions will be inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame next month. The "legendary" Celtic side became the first British team to lift the European Cup when it defeated Inter Milan 50 years ago. The club has "celebrated the triumph in various ways throughout the year," and now the team will be honored at Hampden Park on Oct. 15 (SCOTSMAN, 9/25).
