AFLW Side Fremantle Dockers To Host First Aussie Rules Match At New Perth Stadium

Australian Football League Women's side Fremantle Dockers will host the first Australian Rules football match at the new Perth Stadium -- an event organizers "hope will break the AFLW crowd record," according to Jacob Kagi of the ABC. The Dockers will host the game at the A$1.6B ($1.3B) venue on Feb. 10, "less than three weeks after the stadium officially opens." But it may not be the first sporting event at the 60,000-seat stadium, with authorities "still hopeful" a one-day int'l cricket match between Australia and England can be held there in late January. Fremantle CEO Steve Rosich said, "We think we can get past the 30,000 mark." The AFLW match will be played ahead of a National Rugby League season-opening doubleheader on March 10, "with the men's AFL season to follow soon after." (ABC, 9/19).
