Media Notes: Nova Sports Channels Secure Carriage On Vodafone's IPTV Platform

Greece's Nova Sports channels secured carriage on Vodafone's IPTV platform. The channels, which are also broadcast on Nova's DTH platform, offer viewers exclusive coverage of the Greek Football Championship, Super League, the EuroLeague and the Basketball Champions League. In addition, they feature football from France, the Netherlands, England, Italy, Germany and Spain, "as well as numerous other sports events including Wimbledon" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 9/18).

Dublin Gaelic Athletic Association's "narrow win over Mayo" in Sunday's All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final was the "most watched show" on Irish TV so far this year, with more than 1 million viewers tuning in to "the drama on RTÉ2." The game drew an average audience of 1,137,500 (RTÉ, 9/18).

Eleven Sports
secured live and exclusive rights to the inaugural Laver Cup men's tennis competition in Belgium and Luxembourg. The tournament will see team Europe take on a team from the rest of the world at the O2 Arena in Prague from Friday-Sunday (Eleven Sports).

Swiss pay-TV provider Teleclub will offer 12 matches of the Swiss Ice Hockey Cup live and exclusively "from the sixteen-finals and the finals co-exclusively" with public provider SRG. In addition, "selected matches will be available for free" on TV channel Teleclub Zoom. The matches will be "commented on in German, French and partially also Italian." Viewers will also be able to watch selected highlights on bluewin.ch (TELECOMPAPER, 9/14).

Following Brexit, more than 1,000 exported TV channels "will find themselves exposed." They originate in the U.K. with an Ofcom license but "will need a new one after the country leaves" the European Union (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 9/18).

U.K. broadcaster ITV acquired the rights to this year's edition of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe horse racing event. The event takes place on Oct. 1 at the Chantilly racecourse in France (ITV).
