Taiwan To Build Six Football Stadiums In Effort To Kickstart New Professional League

Taiwanese sports officials outlined plans to build six football stadiums to "help kickstart a professional league" during a visit by a delegation from J.League club Vegalta Sendai to the Legislative Yuan in Taipei on Thursday, according to Mark Baber of INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL. Taiwan Sports Administration Dir General Lin Te-fu revealed that the government has committed $79.7M under the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program for the construction of the six stadiums, "one in each of the nation's special municipalities." Lin said that the stadiums will help kickstart a "true professional" football league consisting of six professional clubs based in the six cities, "with main sponsorship from each city government and major corporations based locally" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 9/15).
