América Móvil Agrees To Sell Its 30% Stake In Liga MX Sides Pachuca, León

América Móvil, the largest mobile phone operator in Latin America, chaired by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, said on Wednesday that it reached an agreement to sell its 30% stake in a group of Mexican football clubs, according to Julia Love of REUTERS. In '12, the telecom bought stakes in Liga MX sides Pachuca and León. The clubs' ownership will retake control of América Móvil's stakes. As part of the transaction, América Móvil will "retain certain broadcasting rights" for the clubs. The terms of the deal "were not disclosed." The purchase of the stakes in '12 "marked Slim's first direct participation" in football (REUTERS, 9/6).
