Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) President José Ramón Lete on Monday met with the five Spanish Basketball League (ACB) clubs that will compete in the upcoming EuroLeague season: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Baskonia, Unicaja and Valencia. Of the teams' threat to form a new competition, Lete said, "They have told me that they want to play in the Spanish league. ... If it is necessary to relaunch the ACB, we will relaunch the ACB" (AS, 9/6).
UK Athletics CEO Niels De Vos "hit back at claims that his sport's coaching is in disarray" and said that compared to tennis in Britain, track and field competitors are "extremely successful." He said, "It’s brutally hard to win a world athletics medal. Have we got people coming through? Absolutely. There are two ways of measuring an athletics event, you can look at the medals table or the points table and what people within sports tend to do is look at the points table, that shows the depth of talent" (LONDON TIMES, 9/6).
The NBA and Antel, the league's official telecom partner in Uruguay, announced the launch of the first Jr. NBA league in the country. The Jr. NBA Uruguay League will be comprised of 30 teams for boys (ages 14 and under) and 12 teams for girls (ages 14 and under) and will run from Sept. 12-Dec. 2 (NBA).
