Olympic Notes: Tokyo 2020 Women's Football Final May Be Held At New Stadium

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics women's football final "may be held at the new national stadium in place of the men's final, which is likely to be moved to another venue," a source said Monday. Games organizers are "considering staging the women's final at the main Olympic stadium on Aug. 7 or earlier," while the men's final, which had been scheduled there on Aug. 8, "may be held possibly at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama or elsewhere," the source said. The move is "aimed at easing the concentration of events at the national stadium" (KYODO, 9/5).

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will feature more female athletes than any previous Games, the IPC announced. In total, 4,400 athletes will compete in 537 medal events, with at least 1,756 slots available for women -- "a 17% increase on London 2012" (BBC, 9/4).
