Former League One side Northampton Town Manager GRAHAM CARR returned to the club as an associate director. Carr left his post as Premier League side Newcastle United's chief scout in June after seven years with the club. The 72-year-old previously worked for Man City and Tottenham in scouting roles (BBC, 8/22). ... League One side Blackpool President VALERI BELOKON resigned as director of the club. The 57-year-old is "currently involved in a legal dispute" with Blackpool Owner OWEN OYSTON and Chair KARL OYSTON. Belokon, whose company VB Football Assets is a minor shareholder in the club, is taking legal action against the Oystons for "unfair prejudice" against shareholders -- which they deny (BBC, 8/22).

ANDY MURRAY revealed the "depth of sexism that still exists in tennis," including one player asking him if he was joking when he "broke new ground" and named AMELIE MAURESMO his coach three years ago. Murray also said that tennis "should celebrate its role in challenging sexism." Murray said, "When it first came out in the press that I may be working with a woman, I got a message from one of the players who is now coaching. He said to me, 'I love this game that you're playing with the press, maybe you should tell them tomorrow that you're considering working with a dog.' That's the sort of stuff that was said when I was thinking about it" (London TELEGRAPH, 8/23). ... The U.S. 1992 Dream Team, SHAQUILLE O'NEAL and TONI KUKOČ headline the FIBA Hall of Fame's '17 class of inductees. O'Neal (U.S.) and Kukoč (Croatia) are among six former players being enshrined, alongside MICKEY BERKOWITZ (Israel), PERO CAMERON (New Zealand), RAJIZA MUJANOVIĆ (Bosnia & Herzegovina) and VALDIS VALTERS (Latvia). Joining them is former coach DUŠAN IVKOVIĆ (Serbia) (FIBA). ... Former Croatian football side Dinamo Zagreb Dir ZDRAVKO MAMIĆ was reportedly shot and injured in Bosnia on Monday. Croatia's state TV said that Mamić was shot in his leg and taken to a local hospital. It added that the injury was "not life-threatening." Mamić has been "on a high-profile embezzlement and tax fraud trial in Croatia" (AP, 8/22). ... Belgian driver STOFFEL VANDOORNE will continue to race for McLaren next season, the Formula 1 team announced on Wednesday. Vandoorne has "scored just one point so far this season, with McLaren struggling to get strong performances" from its Honda engine (REUTERS, 8/23).
