UEFA Signs Volkswagen As Partner For All National Team Competitions

UEFA announced Volkswagen signed an agreement to become a partner for all UEFA national team football competitions from '18-22, including Euro 2020. To mark its 60th anniversary, Euro 2020 will take place across 13 European countries. Volkswagen will also sponsor the newly-created Nations League Finals in '19 and '21; the qualifiers for Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup; the 2019 and 2021 European U21 Championships; Women’s Euro 2021; and Futsal Euro 2018 and 2022 (UEFA). INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL's Paul Nicholson reported Volkswagen is "banking on the popularity of the sport as it seeks to restore its brand image" following the "dieselgate" emissions scandal. Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said, "No other sport is as powerful as football or unites so many people. Furthermore, UEFA Euro 2020, which is being played across the entire continent, is a fantastic project" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 8/9).
