Finance Notes: Premier League Smashes Through £1B Mark For Summer Spending

Premier League clubs "smashed through" the £1B ($1.3B) mark for summer spending with 23 days remaining in the transfer window. Richarlison's £11.2M ($14.5M) move to Watford "tipped the balance and confirmed the milestone figure, which is rising by the day as the window hots up." Just £118M ($153M) "needs to be spent between all 20 clubs to break the all-time record" (London DAILY MAIL, 8/8).

League One side Bolton Wanderers Chair Ken Anderson hopes an "ongoing issue" between Dean Holdsworth's Sports Shield BWFC group and its creditors can be resolved soon. Sports Shield, which owns shares in the club, "had a winding-up petition over an unpaid loan adjourned" until Aug. 21. BluMarble Ltd. is seeking repayment of a £5M ($6.5M) loan taken by Sports Shield to help buy the club in March '16 (BBC, 8/7).
