South African National Rugby Team Partners With Banking Firm FNB

The South African national rugby team announced banking firm FNB will join telecom MTN as a second sponsor on its jersey, according to SPORT24. The deal, which will run until after the 2019 Rugby World Cup, was expected to be announced at Montecasino on Monday, an official close to proceedings said. The contract will be worth 20M rand ($1.5M) a year to SA Rugby until '20. Coupled with MTN’s 50M rand ($3.8M)-a-year deal, FNB pushes the total of the sponsorship brands on the Bok shirt to 70M rand ($5.3M) a year (SPORT24, 8/6). SUPERSPORT reported the deal with FNB "brings to five the number of major new partners to join the Springbok and SA Rugby family since the start of the year." FNB’s name will appear on the team's playing jersey for the first time in the Rugby Championship match against Argentina in Port Elizabeth on Aug. 19 (SUPERSPORT, 8/7).
