Juventus Pulls Out Of Super Copa Tecate In Mexico Citing Scheduling Conflict

Juventus canceled its plans to participate in the Super Copa Tecate in Mexico, according to ESPN.com. The club, which was scheduled to play on July 18 and 19, said in a statement that it was forced to back out because of "rescheduling of the first part of preseason." Tecate said in a release that the other matches in the event between Portuguese side Porto and Liga MX sides Cruz Azul and Chivas Guadalajara "will go on as planned." Juventus is still scheduled to play three games in the Int'l Champions Cup in the U.S., starting July 22 against Barcelona. Juventus said in a statement, "The current schedule would not have provided for a spectacle befitting the expectations of the Mexican public. ... At the same time, Juventus thanks Tecate -- a regional partner of strategic importance for the development of the Bianconeri brand in Mexico -- for the opportunity provided by this event and will work towards future initiatives" (ESPN.com, 7/11). LA AFICIÓN reported Tecate announced that fans who bought tickets for the Juventus matches "will be able to request reimbursement beginning Monday" (LA AFICIÓN, 7/11).
