Spanish Basketball League Agrees To Lower Participation Fee For Promoted Clubs

At the Spanish Basketball League's (ACB) general assembly on Monday, "only part of the recent agreement" with the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) was approved, according to MUNDO DEPORTIVO. The terms of promotion and relegation for the upcoming season "were agreed upon." The part of the agreement regarding the reduction to 16 teams, however, "was not supported" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 7/10). EL PERIÓDICO reported it was agreed that to participate in the ACB, promoted clubs will no longer be required to pay €4.7M ($5.4M), "which had been the case until now." Instead, there will be a "value of participation" fee of €1.6M ($1.8M), which can be paid over four seasons, "with the right to reimbursement in the event of relegation." For '17-18, Gipuzkoa and Burgos have until Friday to "fulfill the requirements to confirm their promotion from the second division" (EL PERIÓDICO, 7/10).
