Formula E Enlists Help Of Giants WR Victor Cruz To Promote Inaugural N.Y.C. EPrix

Formula E has enlisted the help of NFL N.Y. Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz to promote its upcoming race in the "Big Apple." The electric racing series will host its inaugural New York City ePrix on the streets of Brooklyn this summer. The event, scheduled for July 15 and 16, will be the first FIA-sanctioned open-wheel race within the city's five boroughs. On Thursday, the championship released a promotional video with the title "Touchdown In New York For Formula E." In the video, which was produced by the series' host broadcaster Aurora Media Worldwide, Cruz appears to take a Formula E car for a spin around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, where the race will take place in July. While the video makes it seem like Cruz drove the race car, it acually was Andretti's Antonio Felix da Costa who sat behind the steering wheel. Asked about Cruz's involvement in the video, a Formula E spokesperson told SBD Global the series is always looking to work with local sports teams and athletes to attract local sports fans to its races. "To bring a motorsport event to the heart of a city, especially a place like New York, is huge," Cruz said. "I feel like sports are at the epicenter of this city -- and we’re definitely excited about seeing Formula E this summer." The video was released one day after tickets for the event's Pier 11 main grandstand went on pre-sale. The pre-sale period will last through Feb. 28.
